VBS/Lock-In 2012
The girls had their annual VBS & Lock-In at church. This year they combined the two events to create a 24 hr. VBS / Lock-In. The morning began with the bounce house and blow up slide inside our church sanctuary followed by outdoor activities. Then workshops and assorted stations were presented indoors throughout the day. The evening hours offered movies on the big screen, worship in the lobby, and the annual challenge to stay up all night. Those that couldn't make that challenge still had fun camping out on the floor inside the sanctuary.
They were the first ones to arrive since I had to bring them early. There were no complaints though, of course with these awaiting them...
Endless exercise...
No matter what age you are it seems you never tire of these super fun bounce houses.
There were two themes this year: "Crazy Hat" and "What you want to be when you grow up". They choose one boy & girl for each theme... each winner won $20.
In this picture you can see that Mia is an Artist and Madeline is a Farmer.
Mia won for the girls category of "What you want to be when you grow up". So excited for her!
Madeline's "Crazy Hat"
Madeline won the "Crazy Hat" category for the girls. Great job, sweetie!
She came up with this idea on her own and constructed it without any assistance. It was awesome to see her rewarded for all the hard work and creativity she put into this.
We used a chip-n-dip tray upside down and hot glued all the goodies onto it.
The total cost of materials from the Dollar store to create this... $7.

"Not" Back-To-School Blog Hop 2012: School Room
Welcome to Cornett Academy! It sounds formal, doesn't it? We are pretty casual around here. This is our dedicated space to school in. Our written work is completed in here, however the girls enjoy reading out on the couch, or even in our bed sometimes.
This is our sweet little mascot, Molly. We absolutely adore her. :)
Here is the left side when you walk in.
My desk is straight ahead. It used to be my sister's sewing table.
The right side of the room from the entry.
We were blessed by a friend this summer and were given a piano. This was the only place it would fit in our entire home. It is a little tight in here... more than I would like it to be. We will make the best of it though - it is worth it to hear our girls playing.

... my favorite new addition this year
We invite you to link up at the "Hop" too or just stop by for a visit ...

“Not” Back-to-School Blog Hop 2012: Curriculum Week
We are eagerly looking ahead to a fresh start and a brand new year full of learning moments together.
By the grace of God this will be our seventh year homeschooling. This year we will be staying with Rod and Staff for several subjects. This works very well for us and we adore their simplicity in teaching. We also love Apologia for Science and will be diving into two new themes this year. However, we are going on an adventure and exploring something new for Bible.
I don't know about y'all, but I love to go shopping for school supplies. With that being said, I am so blessed to be receiving a new tool from a sweet friend this year that will be amazing in helping us to stay focused & productive. I am praying & believing this will be our best year ever. :)
Here is a glimpse of what will fill our days, and inspire us to learn in many different ways...
Our new adventure...
Bible
Apologia: Who Is God? And Can I Really Know Him?
This is Volume 1 of the series What We Believe: Biblical Worldview of God and Truth. There are three volumes in this set. I plan to cover all three, so we decided to start with the first and move on from there. I haven't even received the shipment yet to know if we will cover more than one volume this year or not. I can't wait to take a peek at this one!
I love how Apologia offers these amazing notebooking journals. How incredibly special this will be when our girls have completed it! What a sweet book they will have outlining their walk with our Lord this year!
5th Grade:
Rod and Staff Reading
Rod and Staff English
Rod and Staff Spelling
Rod and Staff Math
6th Grade:
Rod and Staff Reading
Rod and Staff English
Rod and Staff Spelling
Rod and Staff Math
Our Combined Subjects:
History
Rod and Staff: Understanding Latin America
We will cover Latin America this year with Rod and Staff. I enjoy reading orally with the three of us together . It allows for great discussion. They also have the freedom to read it themselves to absorb even more.
Science: Semester One
Apologia: Exploring Creation with Botany
We will enjoy reading this together aloud. These are amazing books that aid in high retention of the material covered. The girls will often talk about what they have learned in passing day to day.
This notebooking journal makes all the difference. It is worth the extra money to really cement in the ideas and give them such a fun visual aid to hang onto as a keepsake.
Apologia: Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology
We will follow the same format we do with Botany.
Our girls are really looking forward to this one. There is so much that really tweaks their interest.
We were blessed with this computer program and are hoping this will be a fun way for them to learn to type. They have limited time on the computer, so this should be a hit. :)
Other Involvement:
- Cast Members in plays at our church for Children's Church, as well as, our annual church-wide Christmas & Easter Productions
- Taking dance instruction in Ballet, Jazz, and Lyrical
- Lots of fun field trips
- Trip to the Smoky Mountains in the beautiful fall
What a blessing it is for us all to have the honor of teaching our children from home! May God be glorified in all that we do as we seek to raise a generation devoted to HIM. May our children follow the path He has already chosen especially for them.
Lord, direct our steps - may we continually surrender our plans to fully embrace your perfect path & will for each of us so that we can truly follow you and not be led or go astray. In Jesus name, Amen.

Quiet Moments
We just came across this book recently and absolutely loved it. I am not a regular reader of many books other than the Bible. However, a friend of mine highly recommended this one and said you won't be able to put it down... and she is not normally that way with books either.
It is true - I could not put this one down and I believe I finished it in less than two days. I was so sad when I was done though hoping that I could continue to hear of more details about Heaven. My friend said the same thing - she was hoping there was another book out there with a similar testimony. Our oldest daughter is reading it now and I am looking forward to hearing her perspective of it .
This one sure did strengthen my faith and draw me even closer to Jesus!
What have you read lately that has made a great impact upon your walk with the Lord? Any books that have led you into greater intimacy with HIM?

Sea World Beach Clean Up
We had a WONDERFUL time volunteering for the beach clean up with Sea World at the Cape Canaveral National Seashore this past weekend. We are so grateful that our friends invited us to join them. It was a beautiful day with a refreshing breeze that produced some pretty impressive waves.
What a blessing it was for our whole family to serve the community and be a part of such an important event! We were there to clean up the beach of any trash or debris that could interfere with the sea turtle hatchlings and their upcoming journey into the ocean. Several small families gathered together for a few hours to make one huge difference. The kids and the parents alike learned a lot on this adventure...and what a beautiful environment to do so!
